Supernatural : The Oldest CW Show
The CW is notorious for creating amazing shows such as Riverdale and Gossip Girl. But, it is known for its longest-running show, Supernatural. Supernatural has 14 finished seasons, with its final season, season 15, currently running. With season 15 coming to an end in May 2020, fans are sad, aggravated, and currently rewatching the series on Netflix.
Supernatural involves 2 brothers, Sam and Dean, played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The two brothers follow in their father’s footsteps in traveling around the United States hunting down and saving people from supernatural beings like demons, ghosts, vampires, wolves, etc. Their motto is “Saving People, Hunting Things, The Family Business”.
When you first watch Supernatural, it seems dark and mysterious because of the filter. But as you watch each episode, you see that the brothers are very close and that they will do anything to keep each other safe. The show can also be light-hearted at some points. Yes, it has its extremely dark times, which makes it the show unique. The show involves sex, drinking, extreme language, and violence. The brothers are over 21 at the start of the show, so it is not a big deal. They’re both guys who like to drink, though Sam doesn’t drink that often. Violence is to be expected too because the show is based on the boys to fight supernatural beings. The show isn’t that graphic, although you see someone’s head get chopped off by a garage door. But, for
the most part, Sam and Dean are shooting supernatural beings with bullets filled with salt or it has a devil’s trap carved on it. The show doesn’t promote violence; violence occurs when the supernatural being injured or murdered a human and Sam and Dean stop them. As for the strong language, Sam and Dean usually say the B-word and S- word. As for the show’s involvement in sex, it mostly shows Dean using sex as an escape when something doesn’t go his way. For example, when Sam dies, for the first time, yes, the boys die multiple times throughout the series, Dean does on a bend. Dean brings Sam’s body back to their friend’s Bobby’s house and drinks for days. Until he goes to a crossroads and sells his soul for Sam’s soul back.
The character development in Supernatural is excellent. At the beginning of the series, Sam and Dean, mostly Dean, refuses to work with anyone. But as the season comes, the boys, Dean, learn how to trust people. They worked with many people like Joe and Bobby, who are humans and Castiel, Jack, Meg, and Crowley, who are angels, demons, and a half-demon, half-angel. Dean also developed an understanding that Sam might not want to do everything that he wants to do. Sam also develops an understanding that Dean wants to protect him, so he stays behind in any mission Dean wants to go on alone.
In the end, Supernatural is a show for people who like action and sci-fi. The show gives way to complex characters who are in tough situations. Even though the situations are unrealistic, with all the fights with Lucifer and God, but the character’s personality and traits are relatable. After watching the whole series, multiple times myself, I would recommend this to my friends.
